On Thursday 24 May 2012, Hon Anthony Byrne MP, Federal Member for Holt, caught up with Hon Kevin Rudd MP and Stephen Jones MP for a cup of tea at Parliament House to support the Cancer Council’s great initiative “Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea”, which was hosted by Hendy Cowan, President of the Cancer Council Australia, Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for Health and Hon Peter Dutton MP, Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of the Cancer Council’s flagship annual fundraising and awareness-raising events. The event has raised over $100million since its inception in 1994 and this year Cancer Council is seeking to raise $11.5 million to help fund vital cancer research, prevention and support services (like the Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20).
Last year over 35,000 households, workplaces and schools hosted a morning tea with over one million Australians coming together across the country to raise funds for Cancer Council and help reduce the impact of cancer on all Australians.
By taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Australians can help Cancer Council support the 1 in 2 Australians who will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85.
All funds raised from the event are invested directly into life-saving research, cancer prevention and support services for people in Australia living with cancer and their families.
